What are Islands?
Island is an area that is smaller than a continent and entirely surrounded by water. Islands are beautiful creation of nature as they are in the middle of the water. It is amazing to see land in the center of water. It can occur in ocean, lakes, rivers and seas. Any body of land either big or small is an Island. This blog contains Formation of Island and Some remarkable Islands on Earth.
Formation of Islands:
The formation of Island is a great mystery of nature. Because it was considered as unbelievable that land can be formed on the water. According to the research, There are three possible ways that can be the reason of formation of Islands. These are as follows:
1.Volcanic Eruption:
As we know that many volcanoes are found deep into the ocean. When these volcanoes erupt and forms gases and ashes, they get cooled over a period of time and deposits in the ocean. It cause the formation of landmass in the middle of the ocean. That appears as an Island in few years. As we know the ashes from the volcanoes are organic and gives fertility to the soil so beautiful green islands are formed in this way.
2.Growth of Coral Reefs:
Coral reefs are the hard structures that provide habitat to most of the aquatic species and facilitate their lifestyle. When there is excessive and huge growth of coral reefs, after becoming reefs they can be grown as an elevated landmass in the middle of the ocean. This can become a reason of formation of Islands. They are also very beautiful islands and facilitate different flora and fauna species.
3.Erosion:
Seas and oceans have waves and tides every time throughout the day so these waves takes sediments, rocks, sand, shells etc. with them and throw on the shores. In this way where there is shallow water near the shore, these sediments deposits and this erosion over a period of time can be transformed as landmass and become an Island. This takes a longer period of time but it is a possibility for the formation of an island.
Importance of Islands:
Islands are important landmasses as they are rich in flora and fauna. They are fertile lands with forests, waterfalls, beautiful sceneries, amazing beaches and much more to see. These are different from other lands by different means. So their formation and structure of land is different from other land out of the waters. They also provide habitat to rare species of flora and fauna that can easily live there and reproduce. Many islands are having no humans living on them so they are fill with nature and there is no disturbance in the natural environment.
It is worth seeing and it gives us opportunity to feel the nature and enjoy God’s Creation, that is now nearly impossible in the cities where humans live. Islands are big source of resources such as wood, rare plants, fossil fuel and much more. That is why islands are important on Earth, as they derive distinct characteristics from the earth’s mantle to the surface of ocean.
