This blog contains information about Wireless Charging Technology. First, we discussed the concept and process of Wireless Charging Technology in detail. Then we discussed about the company that introduced wireless charging for the first time. Second, we discussed the mechanism of Wireless Charging. Then we explained the Methods of Wireless Charging. At the end, we discussed the Advantages and Disadvantages of Wireless Charging Technologies. This blog contains Mechanism, Methods, Advantages and Disadvantages of Wireless Charging Technology.

What is Wireless Charging Technology?

Wireless charging is the technology of charging your electronic devices such as phones, tablets, ear buds etc. without using a wire. There are special devices are that offer wireless charging and this feature is not available in all smartphones.

Wireless charging is like placing your phone on a device and it will be charged in the same time of wired charging. You can use it when you are busy in your work. You can at the same time put your phone in front of you and get charging.

On the other hand, wired charging keeps you bound with the wire. You cannot use your phone properly and it is the old conventional method to charge you phone. While wireless charging is new technology and is more interesting and easy to use. This blog will explain wireless charging technology and its mechanism.

Which company introduced Wireless Changing?

The companies like Nokia and Powermat introduced first wireless charging devices in 21st century. It was new to the people, putting the smartphone on a charging pad and getting it charged. This was the start of wireless charging era. After this invention, all the companies started introducing wireless charging feature in their phones and provided wireless charging devices. This was the start of a new revolution in technology.

Wireless charging was at first related to smartphones only for several year. But now it has became diverse by including wireless charging of smartwatches, ear buds, portable power banks, headphones and many other latest electronic devices. At present time, we use wireless charging in Electrical Vehicles too.

Mechanism of Wireless Charging:

Wireless charging is the technology in which electrical energy is transferred through magnetic field. A phenomenon called Inductive charging is also used in wireless charging. This phenomenon relies on two coils one is receiver and a transmitter. When electricity floes through transmitter coil, it generates an electromagnetic field. When a receiver coil is placed within this field, it induces current which can be used to charge a device’s battery. This system forms the basis of many wireless charging systems used today.

Electric Cars:

Electric Vehicles are the foundation for future. Because they do not require fuel to keep on working. The only thing they need is charging by electrical current. Whenever their battery is low, they can be taken to car charging stations or home garages with their chargers. Electric Vehicles have became so much famous in a very short period of time and their sale is huge.

Wireless Car Charging Technology:

As electric cars were also charged by wired chargers, same as our phones in previous era. But as our smartphones charging has upgrade to a great level in the form of wireless charging, scientist have added a feature of wireless charging in the latest models of Electric Vehicles.

This is an amazing invention. People with Electric Vehicles will take their cars above the wireless charger install on the parking lot or floor and the Vehicle will be charged instantly. The time of their waiting in the parking area will be utilized for charging of the vehicle and there will be less chance of battery loss or dead battery.

This technology is stunning for every person. We can image that while charging our phones wirelessly, we are now forward enough in the technology that we are able to charge our electric cars and vehicles wirelessly. This blog contains Mechanism of Wireless Charging Technology.

Methods of Wireless Charging:

There are four methods of Wireless Charging Technology. These methods are as follows:

1. Electromagnetic Induction:

It is a very simple, compact and low-cost circuit structure. This transfers power using induced magnetic flux, so magnetic flux is the medium for power transfer in this method. It contains two components power transmission and receiving sides. It uses short distance transmission distant and susceptibility to misalignment. This works on short distances and have low efficiency.

2. Magnetic Resonance:

Another method of wireless charging is through magnetic resonance. This method allows us to utilize resonators, placed on the transmission sides and receiving sides. We can use this for long transmission distance and it is promoted for EV charger applications. The issue as well as the drawback of this technology is that its efficiency is not as it should be in the wireless charging.

3. Electric Field Coupling:

It is the technology in which we use electrodes at both the transmission and receiver sides. Facing electrodes makes it a capacitor that works for the transmission of the power from one side to another. The current flow between the electrodes is with high frequency. It is short distance transmission such as Electromagnetic Induction. Its drawback is thickness of the high voltage transformer.

4. Radio Reception:

This method is an efficient method that converts current into electromagnetic waves on the transmitter side. Then it receives the electromagnetic waves from an antenna on the receiver side. Then it again converts the waves to direct current using a rectifier circuit. The transfer takes place through magnetic field. In this method, the distance is relatively long but the efficiency is poor.

These are the methods of Wireless Charging Technologies.

Advantages of Wireless Charging:

This technology is clean and clutter free.

Wireless chargers can change multiple devices at the same time.

This offers constant charging.

It looks aesthetic.

It gives slower result so the heating up of the device is at lower risks. etc.

Disadvantages of Wireless Charging:

Wireless charging allows slower charging as compared to wired charging.

It is inefficient than other charging methods.

With long time exposure, it can cause overheating.

Its more expensive but less efficient than other charging methods.

It takes 30-80% more time to charge your device than other charging methods. etc.
